herters super model 3 reloading press

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

I just got this press and some other reloading stuff for 20 bucks. The press is in great shape and the shell holder that came with it fits my .22-250 and the wifes .270. What I need is a shell holder that will fit my .7mm Remington Ultra Mag. Does anyone know where I can go to find more Herter's shell holders? I appreciate all the help you can give me. Thanks a lot, fredo

MidwayUSA, both sell adapters that will allow the Herters press to be used with newer style shell holders, about $17.00 dollars.

This one is a little tricky. The Remington Ultra Mag cartridges have the uncommon rim diameter of 0.534". The RCBS shell holder is #38. Only the Ultra Mags use it. For the Herters Model 3 press you will have to either use an adapter or have a normal Herters shell holder custom made for the 7mm Ultra Mag. Both items are often offered on Ebay. Search 'Herters adapter' and pick the item you want. Keep in mind that the adapters that allow you to use RCBS type shell holders will not allow you to prime your cases with the Herters priming arm! You will have to get an adapter that includes the appropriate length priming arm for the Model 3. That's why I invest in a custom cut Model 3 shell holder so I can use the normal Herters priming arm.

Uh, no. The shell holder(s) for my 7mm Rem mag fit(s) my 300RUM just fine. Even the Herters which was made way before any of the RUM's.

Keep your powder dry and when you go afield take the kids and please..........wear your seat belts.
I am the ORIGINAL recoil junky , often imitated, but never equalled.

Recoil Junky...you're lucky with your shell holder, apparently your 7mm RM holder is a little on the loose side if it takes the RUM cases. In the long run, try a shell holder for the 7mm RM or the 300 Win Mag. If they are properly snug with the RUM, you're OK. If the RUM won't fit, get a holder cut for it.
