How many times reloaded?

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

A whole bunch of my .45 brass cases have headstamps that are barely visible. How many times have these been reloaded? I have no idea because I bought 'em used back in the '70's. I'll stick with brass cases as long as they're available and not regulated by the fed or state bureaucracy like too many other things seem to be nowadays!

Thin wall cases made from stainless steel tubing with inserted aluminum bases were developed several years ago by DoD. They were in 5.56 and 7.62 and extensive tests proved they met all military requirements. I believe they would be a good alternative to brass for the military if only for costs reasons. I don't know how reloadable they would be but is not the military's concern. They are not in business to supply us with military surplus ammo or components.

In addition to the possibility of the SS case separating from the aluminum base I wonder how many times an aluminum primer pocket can be reused without suffering from erosion or expansion. That could potentially limit their usefulness to reloaders. OTOH those stainless steel tubes might have potential for making fishing lures.

Lots of people still hunt with black powder, cap and ball, and flintlocks. Most of us hunt for the challenge. The meat is a bonus. Nothin's gonna change that. If it does, I'm not interested in seeing it.
