i have ben using hodgdon h110 for my 240gn, jacketed loads, but then i got some lil gun to try from a friends suggestion, i have some left over hornady lead cast bullets and am having difficulty finding load data using lil gun with lead bullets in my 44 mag, does anybody have good data from using lil gun and lead bullets?
hodgdon has some data on jacketed bullets and h110 and lil gun but nothing on either powder and lead bullets, I even called them today and they said they don't reccomend it, but that maybe i could try using jacketed data with the solid lead bullet, dunno if i wanna try the same data or not.
The Hornady bullets are probably swaged, and very soft. If you can mark them with your fingernail, then Lil'Gun is not the powder to use. A light load of Bullseye or something like that would be appropriate.
Any of the fast pistol powders are suitable, I use Titegroup in a lot of my pistol loads from 9mm to .45 Colt and I use it for my competition .40 S&W loads.
Lil Gun falls between N110 and H110 on the burn rate chart. Slower than 2400 but faster than 4227 (both). I would like to try some with a Lyman 429421 cast from linotype. I would probably start somewhere between 16 and 17 grains. Any Quickload help would be appreciated.
When I bought some of "Ranger Rick's" Tyrannosaur Thumpers for an Encore .500 S&W barrel, they came with load data. The max loads for those beautifully cast and very heavy bullets were all L'il Gun.
