Have you ever been injured by a wild animal during a hunt? I had a close call while deer hunting in November 1985.
I was walking uphill on a narrow dirt path in a national forest. While I was looking down at the trail in front of me for tracks, I felt a slight vibration through my boots.
Before I had time to think about what was causing the vibration, I looked up, and around a bend in the path came a full-size buck running toward me as fast as he could. When the buck was about six feet from me he instantly side stepped the path and only missed me by inches.
Everything occurred so fast that I had to stop and sit down to think about what just happened. Or more importantly, what might have happened. If that buck hadn't made a last-second adjustment in his escape route, I would've had a very bad day at Blackrock!
I'm sure when he settled in for the night, Mr. Buck had an exciting story to tell his buddies too.
