Ive got an 1895 GS that wont feed the ballistic tip 45-70 (cant remember the name right now) into the chamber. Is this a common problem? or is there a part that I can buy to fix it? All flat nose bullets feed just fine.

That's the Hornady Leverevolution ammo.

First thing, is this factory ammo you're using, or handloads?

If handloads, check the maximum OAL of the cartridge. Sounds like it may be a bit long.

They are factory loads. I bought the gun used knowing this and managed to knock off $150 by convincing the guy that it would be about a $150 dollar part to fix it. Now Im wondering if there is even a part to do that and if there is, what is the part is it and did i get the right deal?
Thanks for the help

I seem to , maybe , remember Marlin redesigned the plunger / follower that rides in the mag tube . To get it to feed the LR ammo , better ? Maybe not for all calibers ?

I only shoot home cast bullets in my Marlin .45-70 and thay feed fine , as long as I do not seat the bullets too long .

God bless

Yours is a fairly common problem with 1895s that were not made within the last 3-4 yrs or so. It is indeed the gummy tip of that FTX bullet that is causing the jam, the most common of which is jamming with the last round out, first round into the magazine. The plastic follower was changed by adding a dimple to it to keep that first round in more properly aligned in the tube. This problem is also found in the other LE chamberings that were around before the FTX bullets. I have a .444S that has had this happen. A new follower (red colored, I believe) with dimple would likely cure the occassional jam, but you might also try a cheaper fix (follower is NOT expensive) of simply using a flat tipped bullet as the first one into the tube. I cured mine by simply prying the plastic tip out of a LE load, leaving the flatter, hollow point profile and using that bullet first into the tube.
