I have a Marlin Model 39 TDS that's well over 10 years old, probably older than that. The serial number is 11147XXX. How much would this gun be worth? Can anyone tell me? It's in very good shape, just minor tiny scratches. Thanks.
Welcome to the forum Warghost. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.
Your gun is worth 68.72 cents.
Folks here can give you any number of guesses, and that's all they are. Gun values can only be a real number for the area you live in and plan to sell the gun in.
The folks here are mostly hunter's and shooters and most of them even if they own gun shops really can't give you a value without actually having your gun in their hand to inspect.
I'd call around to some of the local gun shops and get someone to appraise it or at the least check out what simular guns are selling for on some of the online gun auction sites.
2000 - 11 (your first two numbers) = 1989 date of manufacture.
Question should be not how much it is worth but what it would cost to replace new. My 39A was bought for $20 in a tag sale, but I cannot replace it without buying new. My estimate would be 80% of new if 90% condition.
Mine was made in 1995 and I got it on a "clearance" sale at wally world for less than half price. It ain't going anywhere. Note what has happened to the prices of Winchester 9422s recently. I expect the prices of 39s continue going thru the roof, too.
Around here, if in excellent condition, your rifle would be a quick sale at $300 -- by "quick sale", I mean you could have 3 Franklins in hand within about 5 minutes of entering any gun show. In pawn and guns shops, it would probably be priced at $450-475, with even ratty, hard-used ones priced at around $300.
