Fish, Thank you for that addition. I just saw, this morning, that a friend of mine passed the other day. His obituary said he served in WWII and Vietnam. He was 88 yrs old. I met Dale when I purchased a rifle from him (M77 in 30/06) for my SIL. WE enjoyed many more "meetings" trading, selling or buying guns between us.

I am quite sad that I never made it over to see him, like I said I would about a month or so ago. But if it's OK, I'll say good-bye to my friend SGM (Ret) Dale Darwin Spitzer here and now. Thank you Dale for your dedicated service to our great Nation! Dale will be buried in the very beautiful (and closed) military cemetary in Stewart County, Tn. at Ft Donaldson National Cemetery. I've gone to MANY Memorial Day ceremonies there since having moved into the area about 24 yrs ago. I'd say, 20 times I've been there on Memorial Day and the next one will be very, very special.

Fish, thanks again for your very timely post.

I cannot for the life of me understand the attitude of the 'moderns'. It makes me so angry when spectators have to be told to honour the occasion at your Tomb. I watch it in silence and reverence why can't they. I am pleased to say we now have a National Memorial to the fallen and as well as covering our military, it is designed to have areas for police, fire crews etc. I have great difficulty in not cracking up every time I go.
Tn. Sounds like your friend served his country well and you have some fine memories of him. We should never ever forget.
