Years ago, I shot a powder called BlackMag and I THINK it is the same powder. At the time I found BlackMag to be an excellent powder. Then the company was sold and the powder near impossible to get your hands on it.. so I moved on to different powders.

Alliant MZ

Toby Bridges on North American Muzzleloading Hunting site has articles on this powder under the more catagory. Initially they were going to go with BlackMag, but the plant had an explosion & they went with American Pioneer powder.

A friend and i have have tested Black MZ powder. It is a good and consistent powder that gives good velocities. We fired 20 rounds in one test: The SD for velocity came out at 17 fps. Black MZ is very much like Goex Pinnacle with the fines removed. Black MZ, like JSG, and Pinnacle, likes a tight fitting sabot seated hard on the powder. When you feel the powder compress its just right. Alliant tells you this:

•Black MZ functions best when heavily compressed by the seated sabot.
