I just bought a Win. 94 AE 45 Colt and looking for some suggested loads for it.

I have some 250 gr. Hard cast and 300 gr. Hornady XTP bullets. I have Win#296, Unique and 2400 powder on hand.

Plan to use the cast for target and the 300 xtp for deer hunting in MN. and Wisc.

Thanks

For your 250g hard cast in the 94AE .45 Colt try 10.0g Unique, this is a time tested load that generally shoots very well in most guns... depending upon bullet quality and sizing of course.

For the 300g Hornady bullets try 20.0g W296 and Winchester primers for a good stout hunting load.

DO NOT USE THESE LOADS IN COLT SAA REVOLVERS OR THEIR CLONES

Hope this helps!

God Bless,

Lap the barrel!
Then slug your barrel for bullet size.
Try using a 300 grain cast bullet with 20 or so grains of your 296/H110. This is a great load in my Rossi mod 92 clone. Anything that will punch through 12 - 14 inches of red cedar stump should do well.
As Marshall said do not use this in any Colt Model P or copy of the Colt Model P

Friends,
I have a follow-up to OLDPETE"S question about loads for the Winchester 94 AE .45 L.C. : Does anyone know if the "heavy" 45 L.C. loads from Cor-bon and Buffalo Bore feed well in the model 94? I know they use rather long bullets to achieve deep penetration and and horrendous shock via a large "meplat." I also know that the Win. 94 often jams with wide nose bullets. Therefore, just wondering if anyone has any experience with those loads.

Regards to all,
Timberwolf

You might just want to drop them a line, either direct email through their web sites or post over on Sixguns/Campfire or Sixgunner/Discussion Board. Both (Tim Sundles at Buffalo Bore and Terry Murbach(sp?) at Cor-Bon) are straight shooters - I have had correspondence with both gentlemen.

oldpete,

I have a win trapper in 45 colt and I use cast performance 335gc and I haven't had any feed issues. IN MY GUN ONLY I LOAD 23 GRAINS OF H110 w/win primers and new win brass. Very snotty! I've recently dropped down to 22 . Zero at 50yds and about 3in drop at 100yds . I tried a shotgun scope but then the gun hurt. I need to get a peep 75 yds is max for me. I'm gunna use this for bear in PA.

Norville (great name, my Dads name is Norvil) Thanks for the info. My 94AE feeds the 300gr. and the 250 Kieth style cast perfect. Much better then my Marlin 1894 .44 Mag feeds anything.

I will be putting a reciever site on my 94. my 59 yr. old eyes can't handle open sites any more.

This 94AE is different from others i have seen as it looks like the Legacy models but has carbine length barrel. Pistol grip, checkered, good wood and a satin finish.

I have a 94 AE Trapper in .45 colt.
I haven't done much with real heavy bullet loads, sticking with primarily the 250 gr Hornady when I use jackeded, and up to 268 gr Keith SWC's from various makers and some I cooked up myself.
This little Trapper will feed anything I have put through it. No jams, no failures to feed, no pickieness. It doesn't care if it is a jackeded bullet, or a sharp shouldered Keith SWC. Feeds 'em all.
I'm going to try the Corbon 325gr lead hunting loads as soon I can find some. That should be interesting.
