Would it be illegal to turn a short piece of barrel into a chamber insert for the 327 Federal that fit into a 7.62X39 or a 303 British? Would that be infringeing on some elses idea? The reason that I'm asking is that I'm contemplating making up a few inserts for testing my 8X25 or 32X10mm in a few existing guns to have something else to play with.
I have had similar thoughts and I know it's been done using 32 ACP with inserts available for 308 and '06 barrels. However, the difference in power, between 32 ACP and 327 Federal is substantial, so I'm not sure if that method would work with the much hotter 327.
I posted two pictures of one of ours in this thread. This was a long time ago I and I didn’t know much about posting pictures. We have a number of these. Great fun to shoot. Several manufactures used to sell these but times change.
I have several of these, some commercially made, some I've made for special purposes, and they are both fun, and surprisingly effective and accurate if care is used in their use, and load development.
Here's a commercial source for more combinations of these adapters than you can imagine!
Gunsmiths in Florida have too much freedom with what they can manufacture, and there are gun manufacturers all over the State in small towns building everything under the sun. One even borrowed one of my rifles and returned it to me with a supressor on it. I didn't appreciate that at all! I cut off that section of barrel too! So I guess I come from an inviroment of gunsmithing outlaws down here, and I can't wait to distance myself from them
Not to start a flame fest, but I wonder what is your definition of "too much freedom". You haven't given any examples of people who were hurt or crimes that were committed because of these creations. The automatic assumption that freedoms should be limited is how we've lost so many of them.
I do agree that putting a suppressor on a borrowed rifle without asking is not neighborly behavior. If you're talking about a sound suppressor, then it is also illegal, since you have to be licensed to possess it.
The MCA .30 Mauser chamber adapter for the .308 works quite well for shooting surplus 7.62x25mm ammo.
