Looking to experiment with some buck and ball loads, and just buck shot loads. Would prefere to cast my own. I could always load with black powder, it's what I normaly load for shot shells, but though I'd try some smokless. Unfortunatly I havne't found any good buck shot loadings.

Thanks

I just checked the Hodgdon site, they have some data, www.hodgdon.com

Although every time I try to look up something on their site, it gets more and more convoluted.....

Just cut thru all the crap and do what the man said.
GET THE BPI Manual on Buckshot Reloading.
I'll give away a little. Only a little because most here won't believe it all anyway.
Maybe I should dig out my last years pics of buckshot handloads at 40, 50 and 60 yards.
For my own reasons I prefer #2, #3, and #4, buck.
I use a 3 inch Multihull (BPI BOOK, son) wads come from P.R., orange wad for 3 inch steel shot.
Why a steel shot wad?
Later.
#2 and #3 buck can be stacked nicely, not so with #4, too small, just use like big bird shot.
At least I can't stack it very well.
(read the book)
32 to 34 grains of Bluedot or "ifergit" how much SR4756, give right at 1200 f.p.s. for the payload.
My payload wiegh, giver 'er take, right around 1 1/4 to 1.5 oz. Certainly within safe lead shot limits.
At 40 yards most of my #2, and #3 buckshot will "group" inside 20 inches.
Devestating loads. Imagine 27 to 34 pellets inside 20 inches at 40 yards.
They will about spread to 30 inches at 50, and worsen at 60 but still give killing pattens on coyotes, fox, and such.
No shot should ever be taken at deer past 40 yards even with my loads.
I suppose I could put 20 #3 pellets in a deer kill zone at 40.
20 simultainious hits is pure devestation.
Do you want 20 holes of #3 shot in the kill zone at 40 or use factory 00 buck and get maybe two or three hits somewhere on bambi.
Perhaps you are doing this for fun, which of course is perfectly valid.
It's what I do.
My loads are reserved for fun and any fool that breaks into my house.
You can play with buck and ball. Some use .58 and .62 (20 ga) lead rifle balls and some buck.
Good luck. The ball will almost always go its own way a long ways off from the buck pattern that is ruined by the big ball.
If you have good success do let me in on your loads please.
Also you MUST buffer buck correctly or risk loosing pattern percentage.
#47 buffer is a good one but you simply must learn to apply the stuff to the load in the right way.
Factory buffered loads are not buffered.
It's a lie. They mis some buffer witht he shot.
Only a little buffer makes it into the shot.
Buckshot is one area of the shotgun sports where you really can make a shell better than the factory can make them.
By the way. By using new, primed hulls, you are not REloading, you are in fact loading brand new ammo.
Good shooting.
