This years rifle season

Well it was an odd year this year for rifle season in my area. It had very good numbers of deer and I saw lots of bucks in Aug./Sept..The opening weekend had way more hunters than I have ever had around our place and a lot of shooting opening morning. The next day my partner killed a nice 3x3 and then from there on the deer left the planet. We hunted our butts off and not even a doe was to be seen. I hunted all the way up to the 2nd to the last day of late season and finally nailed a nice 7x6 that came to the doe in heat bleat. I just can't remember when I have seen so many people from the west side show up over here to hunt, hope it's not a trend to come. I've had a very good year with the trail cam though picked up some elk, 3 different black bears, some yots, a bobcat and alot of whitetail, but only a few bucks but they have been pretty nice ones. I hope all had a great season and enjoy the Holidays.

I've heard of a number of west side guys that go over to NE WA to find deer. I admit I've done it myself a few times, but since I'm an old Spokane boy, I figured I'm legit.

I've never gotten on to hunting the blacktail over here, as the woods are so darn thick. With logging cut back so much since the 90's our area has gotten way overgrown. And this year it was really warm and dry all fall...60's.

W/ all the family and friends I have back on the east side, I'll be back again...

odd year here on the Olympic Peninsula also; few hunters early in the season, many more at the end and during late season. very few deer anywhere other than my yard! friend drove over from the Tri-Cities for the weekend of late season, as soon as he pulled into the driveway a 2 point walked down the street! found him a 2 point Saturday about noon, but he couldn't get the sights of his 45Colt onto it; i saw another 2 point late Sunday, but he was up the hill and into the brush just that fast.
very few grouse and i never saw any owls, which i usually do.

When I lived in Grays Harbor County I knew more than a few people who went to Eastern Washington to hunt. We had a serious poaching problem in my area. Both native and non native. The influx of hunters from Puget Sound and the recklessness of even our local hunters prompted me to suspend my deer hunting for years. I live in Arizona now. Hope to continue deer hunting again some day.
