Bausch & Lomb Balvar Scope 2.5x8

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

Hi :
I am new to the forum, from Upstate NY, hope to enjoy this forum. I have one question regarding a Bausch & Lomb Balvar Scope 2.5x8 I have on a Remington Enfield US-17 . Does anyone have the instructions on how to mount and remove this scope on the Rifle?

I would appreciate any help.
Here is a picture of the rifle with the scope.

Thanks
Lou

Pic did NOT come thru.

There were two different mounts for the BalVar scopes. one is B&L other is krysruky (sp) out of Erie Pa (close to you).

Both mounts use a set of center rings. All adjustments for windage/elevation are in the bases (usually two piece).

The Krusky bros. mount has a leaf spring with a thumb screw holding it on. The B&L is held on with a plunger and spring.released by pulling the scope backwards then lifting the front.

need pic????

Yes I was able to figure it out I have the one with the plunger, Thanks so much. I tyried several times to attach the picture but I guess this forum does not have the advanced device to submit an attachments as other forums do.
Regards
Lou

You might try Googling it - could be some info out there.

Basque, the B&L 2.5-8 was made in the 1960's, maybe 1950's as well.
They were excellent scopes for their time.
B&L brought out the Balvar B series, with Internal adjustments in the early 1970's. I can recall buying a Balvar 8B 2'5-8 I the early 70's - great scope!

Following up on Jacks comment. B&L sold the "b series" machinery, lens, etc to Japanese company along with the licensed right to use the B&L name. That Japanese company continued to use the B&L technology to make high quality scopes. The company Bushnell.

About 15 years ago the trademark lice expired abd B&L stopped Bushnell calling its top of the line scopes B&L so Bushnell started the 'Elite' model line.

I still have some B&L scope, nice.

Most likely a Kuharsky Bros. or B&L mount. The scope mounts are adjusted to align the scope. I'm about to mount one of those on my 1937 Winchester Model 70.

I had 2 B&L balvar 2.5x8 scopes, both bought in the late 60s. The leaf spring and nut holding the scope onto the front and rear base was in fact a B&L set up. Like all scope bases they are specific to individual make rifles. I have on occaision seen both the scopes and bases on Ebay from time to time. I believe some of the old Buhler mounts will work also. Kuharsky Bros also made mounts for them but I never used them on my 2.5x8 scopes. They also made a micrometer mount similar to the Unertle mount, for replacing the clumsy mount on the 6x24 Balvar and I did have that on one of those scopes I owned.
