Hi,
i'm considering purchasing a anschutz 520 semi to shoot rabbits and possums here in N.Z. I'm limited by budget, $250 - $300 NZD$, need to be reliable and preferably capable of being fitted with a suppressor. Would also be happy with early Brno 511. Used to have a ruger 10/22, but not going to find one for that money here. Have bolt gun, but have just gained access to property with too many rabbits, breeding like rabbits! Bolt gun not fast enough, shot 14 in 30mins on a 100 yard walk, unable to shoot all I saw as they didn't hang around long enought to cycle the bolt for the 4th, 5th and 6th bunny.
Anyway what are your thoughts / experience please. I'd love to spend more, but wife prunned our money tree, and it may not survive!:)
cheers Brendon

Had a 520 years ago ( pre Port Aurthur ) here in Victoria, Oz
two issues I found with mine was that the fore end / action tended to rattle loose after every 100 rounds or so, teflon tape on the threads slowed it down a lot ( large screw & Locking screw, eventually used nail polish to lock them in and that it was also really picky with ammo but once you found it it was a lethal little unit. Wish I still had it as the bunnies are picking up here again

BTW, nice work on the possums:), pity they are protected here :(

According to the official police list of approved firearms in NZ, you really should look at a Marlin 60. It's semi auto, built like a tank, easy to break down and clean, parts are cheap and to stay within your budget of $134 to $161 USD. If you don't mind a good clean used one - you could buy two - or at least here you could.

Ahh yes, lots of things I could get hold of, if only I lived there. Oh well, I'll just have to keep an eye out, and make do I guess :). Anyone want to become my export agent? :)
cheers
