I have only recently learned that the Handi-rifle in my cabinet is way more gun than I had supposed. The recent thread about the NEF in 500 S&W was the start and then a review of Buffalo Bore ammo which cites the little gun as useful with their loads.
I took it out today with a few strong action loads with bullets ranging from 300 to 400grs - working up from minimums - and it performed flawlessly right up to max. I am more than a little impressed. No signs of overpressure on either primers or caseheads.
Recoil was stout but not nearly as heavy as I'd expected (previous owner installed a Decelerator pad).

In about 1998 I got a my father-in-law a NEF Handi Rifle in .47-70. It was the black Rynite stock version. Him and I fired some of the stoutest .47-70 handloads outta that weapon that has ever been fired out of a .45-70. At least up to the Marlin 1895 level of power.

On his passing,my wife got the weapon and it quickly became her close range hog gun. I had the bbl chopped to 18" and the LOP shortened to 13".

I handload a Hornady 300gr HP to 1300fps and it killz 'em dead. A Tru-Glo,red dot sight sits attop the weapon, and this combo has accounted for numerious hogs and a couple of deer down here in Flah-Dah.

Good huntin". -----pruhdlr
