Broke the ice

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

I was the only one to see a hog on our first night's hunt in Georgia and managed to break the ice with a decent boar. Filled our guest's BIG cooler about 1/3 of the way and we've got another 3 days to hunt.

I'll try to update as we score, but reception is very sketchy here (lost a much longer post to here a couple hours ago)

The bigger of the guest's two hogs and mine. Just sat down for the last evening hunt. Our guest is in the lead for the custom knife to be awarded to the shooter of the biggest hog.

Thumbs up Great Hunt!

I returned home yesterday and two other members of our group will finally be home later today to Wisconsin and Florida, respectively. As always a great group of 4 guys in camp that ranged in age from 49 to 79, plus our WW Guest. I have to mention the owner of the camp, Blaine Burley, and all the support he has provided to me over the last five years' hunts there at Woods N Water in Johnson County, Georgia.

The day we were leaving they were expecting 13 or 14 new hunters into camp. At my request Blaine has always allowed our group to be the only one in camp to make the experience for us all all the more enjoyable. Meals are provided by the group itself (except the guest) and as typical there were no hungry fellas for the duration. Lasagna, pot roast and a big fish fry (fresh bass) were just some of the great meals we shared.

The fish fry was done by a local friend of Blaine's who also allowed us to hunt hogs on his 500 acre tract, the first hunters ever allowed this privilege. That was the tract I scored on the first evening of our hunt. The other 3 hogs were killed on another piece where the only groups allowed to hunt were the WW hunts these past 2 years. I am very appreciative of the support shown by these very fine folks in Georgia when we show up in mid February on our gift hunt.

Our guest arrived right at dinner time the first evening and we spent a bit chatting and relaxing as the lasagna cooked. I had a few things to give to the fine men who support me on this special hunt and it was finally time to present our guest with some very special items. He was literally speechless at the fine new knife and beautiful custom sling given to him from members of this very forum. I finished by telling him I'd told a little fib when I'd said we would have a rifle ready for him to use on the hunt and that the Weatherby rifle and Zeiss scope were actually his to keep.

The next morning we spent some time getting him dialed in perfectly with the .308 and the 165gr Fusions. I guess he got it done pretty well as both his boars were taken with single shots to the ear!

I'm very appreciative of my very good friends who traveled to Georgia from Wisconsin, Tennessee and Florida to help support this special hunt. It seems that once you experience a hunt dedicated to a very special American it gets into your blood and you cannot say no to another. All three of these fellas have supported me on multiple such hunts and we have become closer because of these hunts.

After the fish fry another area local showed up and donated a beautiful custom knife to be presented to the hunter who killed the biggest hog. The three big boars were all very close in size (about 250 pounds each), and the knife went to our guest to bring home with him to N.C.

Thank you to all that have stopped by to post. Our guest this hunt was still having problems "getting around". Our host told me multiple times he was impressed that our guest was able and eager to climb up into a ladder stand.

As with my very first guest and Marine, I'm in awe at these guys. I'm a very lucky man to have met my six guests and then to remain friends afterwards.

We have already been in touch about next year's guest hunt.

I've had the time, finally, tonight to explain it all to my wife and parents.
