  1. Rifles and Rifle Cartridges
Received this Mauser .270 from grandfather upon his passing. No marking on the outside except for the serial number and “.270 win”. Once I disassembled it though, I found the FN and 1951 markings. However, the trigger has “FINLAND” marked on it, and the whole trigger pack looks exactly like a...

Hi guys, I just had my .308 rebarrelled. When I place a cartridge into the chamber and close the bolt, it is stiff when I go to lock the bolt. When I open the bolt half way and reclose the bolt, it closes easily. I am not sure what us causing the initial stiffness. Any ideas?

Hi all, I am new to his forum. I am wondering about the feasibility of turning a newer rifle like a Ruger M77 (Hawkeye, GSR, etc.) into a Kar98 or Yugo M48 lookalike. I really love the look and feel of old Mausers, but 8mm is drying up and I am not a reloader. Additionally, I am not so...

Good afternoon all, I have a recently acquired VZ 24 sporterized by Kimber chambered in 270 Winchester. The flip up safety is pretty loose and I was hoping for some suggestions on solutions. The safety flips up fine, locks great, and in the safe position is wiggle free but when the safety is...

I know there are a lot of threads about the K98 but i'm just trying to figure out some stuff for myself and see what some others think about the k98 i have. I bought this rifle from a German in Germany a few years back. It had been found in an attic in a rifle box covered completely in...

Hello, I need some assistance identifying an old rifle. This rifle, which I believe to be a Kar98K, based on what info I have discovered so far, belongs to my father. He hasn't shot it in years, and shows some hesitancy in doing so, not knowing the history of the weapon (was it ever used in...

I came to own a very nice 1943 Mauser Gewehr K98. The rear sight was removed as the owner thought to have the receiver tapped for a scope as part of sporterization. No modifications; however, were ever made. I have all the rear sight parts. I learned that the rear sight was originally...

I recently came into possession of a sporterized 7x57 Mauser by way of third hand. I did a friend a favor and he just gave it to me as he is not a shooter. I do not know what type it is, only that it is a Mauser. It is a nice gun and has potential to be a nice hunting rifle, but I have a...

I recently had the opportunity to take my grandfather's WW2 Kar98k to the range and put a few rounds through it and I love the design of the rifle and the cartridge. I do own a shotgun, but I have never owned a rifle for any purpose before. I have been kicking around the idea of buying one of...

Hello folks. I am new to this forum. I have joined in hopes of finding someone that can help me. I own a Pietta PPS 50 .22 cal. Rifle.( sold under many names ,currently Mitchell/ Mauser) It is a great shooter, we'll at least it was. I was at the range showing several friends the rifle. I'm not...

Hi there, Let me start off by saying I know absolutely nothing about rifles. My father used to have a few air rifles and many years ago he swapped his favourite with a friend ,for this deactivated gun- what I believe is a K98? He did it as a favor to his friend and said he regretted it ever...

I 'm researching this rifle from my grandfather who was in WWII in the 10th Mountain division. I think its a Mauser 98K, but I'm not really sure as I have not seen any others like it. He had taken it off a sniper. It has the Nazi Eagle stamped on the bolt which I will follow up with the...

So I picked up a cheap Mauser rifle today that someone had butchered while trying to "sporterize" it. I figure since it's no longer original, I might look into putting a synthetic stock on it and having a bit of fun. Not sure if I'm gonna look to maybe have a new barrel put on it and a good...
