I have an Armi San Marco Colt 44 cal blackpowder revolver. I have owned it for about 24 years. My uncle owned it prior. I was planning to sell it but I've found some confusion about replicas being mistakenly named due to caliber size, engravings and other variations. I had a gunmaker look at it and he gave me the makers name. He was impressed with its condition and would have bought it if the brass sections had been made from steel. I know that it is a .44 caliber, making it the Army version, but the cylinder has engravings of ships. All of the pieces have the same serial number. What I really need to know is how to name/describe the gun when I list it. By the way, it also has an 8" barrel if that makes any difference.

Thanks,
Scott

It's a .44 caliber Armi San Marco 1860 Colt replica. It should have a casehardened steel frame, hammer, trigger, and loading lever. Everything else should be blued steel except for the brass trigger guard/front strap and walnut one-piece grips. Your gunsmith should have known that the trigger guard/front strap on the original 1860 Colt is brass and that your replica is authentic to the original including the 8" barrel. If your replica differs from my description, be aware that various gun makers over the years have taken liberties with the original design.

The roll engraving on the cylinder depicts a sea battle which, IIRC, is between the U.S. and Mexican Navy that occured in the early 1800s during the war with Mexico. This is the correct engraving for an 1860 Colt. Hope this helps.

Thanks

That describes it well. The guy who builds guns isn't exactly a gunsmith. He solely builds very long range blackpower rifles. He told me that I shouldn't take less than $150. Is gunbroker.com the best place to sell it online or is there a better place for blackpowder guns?

Thanks...
