I am trying to choose a Limb Saver grind to fit 'nitro' pad for my Marlin 1895sbl,

I do not have the gun, just ordered it :) Unfortunately I cannot measure it to choose between these options.

Nitro
This thicker pad gives your shoulder extra protection against powerful safari grade calibers.
Small 10537
1.5″ thick L.O.P.
4 – 13/16” X 1 – 27/32” Grindable to: 3 – 7/8” X 1 – 11/32”

Medium 10538
1.5″ thick L.O.P.
5 – 13/32” X 1 – 13/16” Grindable to: 4 – 1/4” X 1 – 5/16”

Large 10539
1.5″ thick L.O.P.
5 – 9/16” X 2 – 1/16” Grindable to: 4 – 7/16” X 1 – 19/32”

can someone help me out? THanks in advance

That's GOT to be an extraordinarily ugly butt pad! Consider starting thin and going thick if you still need it. Any pad over an inch is 'squishy feeling' and really heavy.

I do not own an 1895SBL, however I own GG styled rifles in .444, 45-70, and .450. All these models come with upgraded recoil pads, much more effective than the thin rubber pad put on the 1895.

The standard pad for the SBL looks even better to me and is described as "Deluxe". I'd suggest shooting it as delivered and perhaps using something while shooting at the range to help mitigate felt recoil there. I typically use something as simple as a section of folded towel draped over my shoulder. I have no problems shooting in that manner at the range and shooting any rifle while hunting.

Just a suggestion.

The limbsaver pads are IMO the worst pads on the market, they are squishy as can be, a serious pain to grind as they really really like to tear have a tendency to melt easier than all others and and they degrade fast on the gun turning into a tacky mess that leaves residue everywhere.

That's troubling I chose the limb saver pads because there is another thread in this forum asking specifically what type of butt pad to use And every single person was all about limb saver pads 😳 Did the pictures I linked to showing the measurements of the butt come through on my phone I can't click on them ?

1895-- What pad, if any, comes on the gun? How thick is it? Are you going to ADD length of pull or cut the stock so the new, thicker pad fits the same as OEM? Shorter?

Pick a pad that is LONGER than the butt so the toe line runs true to the tip. I'm sure you'll have to have gun in hand to figure it out. Be sure to line up the butt pad screw holes when you're eyeballing which pad to buy. Sometimes the pad that will barely fit takes filling the old holes and trying to drill more just a half hole off. It can be a PITA.

BTW-- It's much easier to grind those super soft 'tittie pads' if you put it in the freezer overnight.
