i have often thought about a fast twist 22/250, of the choices you have listed i'd go with the 9" twist... me personally that is still pretty fast, if i do it i'd like to find a 10" twist barrel or even a 12" twist just to keep the bullet rpms in check and still be able to use the longer bullets available.

it could put a damper on the velocity...

i really wish i could come up with a 10" or even 11" twist... might have to get a hold of norman johnson, he's been doing cut rifled barrels for quite some time and the last time i visited with him he was gonna start making button rifled barrels too.

Really depends on what your going to be using the gun for. If you won't be using a bullet heavier than 55 or 60 grains a 12 twist would be fine. Maybe even a 14 as far as that goes. I've shot the 22-250 more than any other rifle and it has the standard 1-14 twist in it. The gun will shoot anything 40-60 grains with great accuracy, the best being 50 and 55 grains i guess. If your going to use really large for caliber bullets from the upper 70's to 90 grains it would require a 7 or 8 twist depending on exactly which one. Most of the bullet companies will show what twist rate their bullets require. Have fun and shoot straight !!

Both of your suggested rate of twist is extremely fast. I would think the 1:7 would be would only shoot extremely long/heavier for the caliber projectile. I have had several firearms chambered in 22-250 and all of them have been ridiculously accurate. I used a Remington model 788 with; Remington brass, Sierra 52 grain BTHP pushed along by 31 grains of BLC2 powder. This load printed a repeatable 0.3" outside to outside 5 shot group at 200 yards and was by far the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. I let it go last year after 30 years of service. There was severe throat errosion the first 6" of the barrel but it still easily printed near same hole groups at 100 yards.
