Greetings,
I'm new to the K Hornet and would appreciate some advice on load data. I've been looking for printed lad data and it's coming up pretty scarce.
I would like some recipes for Lil. Gun powder with 35, 45 and 55 grain bullets. If anyone has some W.231 info that would be appreciated as well. I'm shooting a 15" T/C Encore.
I loaded up some fireformed brass for with 13 grns of Lil G w/ 35 gr. bullets(1.75col), 12.5 grns of Lil Gun w/ 45 grn(1.75col). bullets and 11.5 grns of Lil G. w/ 55 grn bullets(1.80col) and experienced some pretty sever pressure signs, punctured primers and cratering. My crono speeds were in the max range + or - 3000fps but my loads were only in the mid range (or at least I thought). I tried both Rem 6.5 small rifle primers and Win. SPM's. The Rem 6.5's seemed to puncture where the WSPM's did not

Your results with 'Lil Gun in fireform loads are interesting.
I have experianced similar problems when fireforming K-Hornets using Winchester 296. I got signs of high pressure, sticky extraction and unusualy high velocity readings with new Winchester brass, Winchester primers and bulk Winchester 45 grain JSP bullets. I was able to repeat these signs by loading the same load and firing them on a different day. I stopped using ball powder for fireform loads. Others I have spoken to have not noticed a similar result with ball powder fire-form loads in the K-Hornet. I now use IMR 4227 for fire-forming K-Hornets.
I have used 'Lil Gun for K-Hornet loads in previously formed brass with excellent results. I have a 24" Fox Ridge K-Hornet barrel.
I believe the Hodgdon web site has 'Lil Gun K-Hornet loading information.

I did not have a problem fire forming my brass even with a heavier load (12.6 grn. / 45 grn) of the same powder (Lil G). My problem of high pressures came when I shot my formed brass. I had a highter pressure with a lighter load of the same powder, same bullet, once the case had been formed. I thought the cases would have a greater volume once formed and thus a greater capacity with the same or less pressure. Are my assumptions correct? The only explination might be that I could have put a slight crimp on the K loads and not the Hornet loads. A crimp would increase the pressure, would it not? Also, only the Rem. 6.5 primers were pierced.
