Two different ways of saying the exact same thing. Like saying 5.56 NATO and 223 Remington. WMR is short for Winchester Magnum Rifle. Most folks just say 22 Mag.

The answer to your question is yes they are the same round with different names. However there is another cartridge that might get you confused. There is an older round call a Winchester Rim Fire aka WRF. Not to be confused with the newer Winchester Magnun Rimfire. You can safely shoot the older shorter WRF in a rifle chambered for the newer WMR. An above poster made an incorrect statement when he stated the a 5.56 nato is the same as a 223 Rem. While in many times they can be interchanged they are two different cartridge with two different SAMMI presures.

I knew someone would quibble about this, when for all intents and purposes, they are the same. I'm sure if I'd said 7.62 NATO is the same as the 308, someone would have argued that, as well. So much for clearing things up for the OP... :rolleyes:
