Who has experience with or thoughts about a 243 270 Win imp wildcat? This looks like the max one can get with a .473 rim cartridge for a std length action. What rifling twist would work for a 105 to 117 grain bullets for long range deer and antelope hunting? What would be the best choice for a variable optic and ret. in the $200 range?

No experience with that one, but the .243-06 imp. is almost the same thing. I have one in the wings waiting to be put together. I am using a 1-8" twist to allow me to shoot the heavier VLD bullets. I am just finishing up a build in a 6.5-280 30 degree improved case, and this will give you the most capacity out of the .473 rimed case off the top of my head using the .280 case. The .280 Rem case would be less work to form because the shoulder is longer than the .270. The smith's shop that I am allowed to do my work at has been building .243-06 30 deg. for a long time and it is one of his favorite and most accurate catridges. He had his reamer custom made though.

I'm sure if you put one together you would not be dissapointed.

Well since your in Az I'd give Walt Berger a call and see what twist he recommend using his 105gr/115gr VLD hunting bullets. On his site he list 1/7 for the 115gr and 1/8 for the 105gr bullets.

Your going to be about the same case capacity as the 240Wby. I've done the 6x284 and 6Br for the VLD bullets about the only experience I have with 1/8 twist 6mm barrels.

Well good luck

Seeing as the .270 is nothing but a necked down 30-06, and the .240 Wby Mag. is the same case capacity as a 30-06, isn't this re-inventing the wheel? I guess the brass would be cheaper is the only advantage i can see to building one of these, and yes, you don't have that useless belt.
