Picked up really nice small-ring mauser (93 Spanish) action in synthetic stock really cheap and would like to convert it to something more usefull to me. I was thinking about a 243 Imp. Would the sharper shoulder lower the chamber pressure enough to be safe ? I've seen 243's, 308's and even one 358 Win. chambered on this action, but I don't trust them enough to do it myself. I know I can handload to lower pressures, but am not familiar enough with the 243 Imp. to decide without some input from someone who is. Any thoughts ??? HD1:confused:

Purely my opinion, but I am not sure I would be comfortable with a .243 in a 93 action. The 7x57 this action was designed for runs around 45,000 psi, and I'd feel fine with any cartridge of this level in a good 93; the .243 is more like 60,000. I think if I wanted something smallring, I'd look at least to a 96 Swedish Mauser action. The 96 is similar to the 95 and 93, but subtly and significantly refined and strengthened, and just of better overall quality in general.

That's pretty much what I thought Pisgah. Maybe a 250 Savage is what I should be looking at huh ? I've got about everything else that most people would reccommend for that action, thought I'd build someting different for it. HD1
