I was shooting my 243 and everything was working fine but after I reloaded my rifle wouldn't eject the round. Anyone know what causes this and how to fix it? I tried cleaning the rifle but that didn't work

I'm not sure I understand your question, so maybe a few questions or my own will help? What make/model of rifle are you shooting? Did your rifle fail to eject after you fired a round or after you reloaded some ammunition and chambered it again? Without knowing exactly what is happening, and in what sequence, it might be hard to help figure it out.

Sorry, it's a sportsman 78. And I fired 3 rounds, reloaded, and then fired 1 round that didn't eject so I removed that round and fired again but that round didn't eject either. I also tried with round that hadent been fired which didn't work.

Have you tried taking the bolt apart and thoroughly cleaning it ? It could really be dirty inside and something sticking.

No I thought about that but I wasn't sure how to do it? I've cleaned a lot of guns but never taken the bolt out and cleaned it. How do you do take it out and apart?

Ok I figured out how to do the bolt thank you guys for helping. New to this but deffinetly will be on here quite a bit! Hopefully cleaning the bolt will work

check for a broken ejector claw in bolt head,Rems are famous for it. biker

The Ejector is a pin and Spring on the laft side of bolt Face . flush it out with Carb cleaner while working it in and out . Once you get it clean and dry , put a couple drops of Oil in it and work it in and out some more . It should free right up and work , if the Spring is healthy . By not Ejecting , you mean it's extracting the round but it stays in the Bolt ?

Ok I took it apart, cleaned it and worked with it for awhile and its working fine now. Thank you for the help!

Glad to hear you got that ejection problem figured out.

There really is a wealth of information on these pages, and in the brains of the guys who contributed to them.

Are you using factory ammo or handloads? Is this a deer rifle or varmint?

I'm using factory ammo and it's a deer rifle. It was my grandpas and he gave it to me so its pretty old but don't know exactly

Good deal, glad you got it working without having any major repairs or costing money. You said it was your grandfathers gun and that's great, something passed down to you that someday you could pass down to one of your own. I'm not sure how in depth you went with the original cleaning but, if it's old and has not had a really good barrel cleaning using solvents to help get rid of the copper fouling, lead, and powder residue's and such it would probably be a good idea to do one with not only patches but a brush also. I've only been here since late last year and don't think you can know about responses unless you just look. There might be a way but I'm not aware of one. There are plenty of guys on this site with a wealth of really good advice and knowledge and not just someone's personal opinions on things although from time to time we all do that and that's ok. Congratulations on your newly received prize and again welcome to the forum. I love my 243, may be my favorite !!

Thank you so am I. Ok thanks for the advice, I'll make sure to clean it with a brush. Ok, I wasn't sure but I figured Id ask since I'm new and and there was like a setting or something so thank you. Yeah I can see that from my first post, and reading other peoples posts. Me too!
