The 25-36Marlin cartridge was to prevent their ammo from being used in Winchester 25-35. The Marlin action design is stronger then the standard M94 so ammo is interchangable in factory form as long as the condition of the firearms are in good shape. The Marlin owner could use Winchester or Marlin ammo. Some of the simplistic marketing ploys used by J M Marlin and Oliver Winchester.
