Hello all! I've just joined this group and I'm hoping you might be able to give me some feedback. I am very seriously considering purchasing a Marlin 336 LTD SDG 30-30 and I've been quoted a price of just under $735, including taxes, shipping, fees, etc.

First, I'd be interested in any views, both pro and con, you may have regarding this rifle. Second, I'd like to confirm that I'm not missing out on a better deal for the same rifle. All the reviews I've read have been quite positive, and this is the best price that I've been able to find thus far, but I thought this would be a good group to seek some additional insight from. Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum. It's a good one with an awful lot of knowledge floating
around. I'm not including myself. The 336 Ltd Sdg is a nice looking rifle. If you
really like it buy it. This is a sport and we are supposed to be having fun. I
suggest you buy it and have fun with it.

Davidsons' has these as a limited run of 501. I just got one for myself. THeystill have some available. Cost is about $640 delivered, so $735 including tax is a pretty good deal. BTW...mine didn't shoot well...about 5-6" high at only 25 yards and 18" high at 100. The sights were adjusted all the way down. I had it replaced with another that is one the way. Hope it shoots better.

I just bought one off Gunbroker yesterday. I saw it and immediately knew I had to have one. With only 501 available, I'd jump on it if I were you. The owner of the store said due to Remington buying out Marlin, production was stopped short of 501 on the LTD 1895 model, and might be the case with the 336, but he wasn't sure.

That didn't matter to me. I've wanted a 30-30 Trapper for a couple years now, and this one fit the bill perfectly.

I payed $680.00 for mine, $724.00 including shipping/fees.

The "original 336 LTD" sold for approx $500. about 7 years ago. At the time, I thought it was overpriced by at least $125.

The 336 LTD is simply a 336 action with short ported barrel chambered for 35 Remington. Stock and lever are straight instead of curved. Perhaps this makes Collectors excited but does nothing for me at all.

A truly outstanding rifle is the 336A of 1950's vintage. This rifle featured 24 inch barrel, raised comb, and no barrel bands. Predictable accuracy compares favorably with any bolt action rifle.

Nope, not wanting to rain on anyone's parade.

Think before you lay down more than $500. for a used Marlin.
