Looks like another useful cartridge has fallen by the wayside. I just looked at all common firearms manufacturer's websites. No one is cataloging the .338 Federal anymore. It is a shame, like the .358 Winchester, it is a very good medium range cartridge suitable for all North American game except Brownie. I am still considering a rebarrel job on a Savage donor action. It is a toss up between the .338, .358, and another .35 Whelen.

i almost got a 338 fed when i was looking for one. 200-225gr bullets, probably hornady, brass was easy to find(take a 308win up to 338) and powder(benchmark, imr3031...) and i was good to go. i seen whitetails and black bears falling and me smiling
. and 250yards would go real well in the dense PA woods. i'm pretty sure that the 338 fed is/was availalbe thru MGM encore barrels. but i got the 444 marlin in tc encore with an MGM Barrel

my two i am counting on is a tc encore with a 23" MGM heavy factory barrel in 444 and a 1898 spingfield in 30-40 krag. my boy got me a 45-70 handi-rifle that uses moyer's 405gr pbfn loaded to aroud 1500fps.
