Hello, I received my Winchester Model 71 (1939 long tang) last week and am looking foreward to handloading Hawk's 250 gr. bullets. I hunt elk here in Colorado and the 250 grain Hawk bullet with the .035 jacket sounds like the bullet for me. Since Hawk bullets are softer they fill the groves more deeply and the barrel lands really impress deeply into the bullet, so they require less powder to obtain the same velocity as other brands of bullets (per their web site). If anyone has any loading experience with the .348 WCF using these bullets please post your thoughts. I am also in search of a versatile powder to use with the .348 that would also work well in my .375 H&H with 270 gr. bullets. I recently obtained 1000 RWS Large Rifle primers that I plan on using for my hand loading. Any experience with those? Thank you, Bruce

For 250gr jsp bullets I use Reloader 19, H-4895. I use Win 760 for 200 grain bullets with great results. Hawk bullets do well with H 4895 in my experience. Just my $.02.

She's a "Shooter".

Well I intended to post a photo of my Model 71...I wasn't able to accomplish the task. The photos on my computer don't have URL's that I am aware of. Never the less I am really looking foreward to handloading some quality 250 gr. .348 rounds. Also thank you Jim Z. for sharing your load preferences with myself and the forum. Bruce

Reloader 19 works good in my browning 71. I use Hawk 270 gr bullet with .035 jacket at 2300 fps I find they are a little soft for close range shooting.

Thank you Savage99, safety is my #1 priority and I will be looking for a bullet with better construction now.

OK Saj, I just called Alaska Bullet Works at 907-789-3834 and left a message. We'll see what happens when they return my call.

I just got of the phone with Karl Mielke the proprietor of Alaska Bullets and ordered up his last box of 250 gr. 348 WCF. He said that in the last 3-4 weeks the 348 bullets "just flew out of here". He didn't think he had any but a friend of his rummaged around the shop and found one box. I feel lucky today. He's a very nice guy and I'll get back with him for some 375 H&H in the future and some more 348 down the road. :)
