I just put some money down on a marlin 336 in 35 rem at my local gun shop,I have never seen one like it before .It has no checkering and a half magazinewith a longer than normal barrel,it has a microgroove barrel.
I am buying it for my 14 year old and would like to know if any one has any loading info for lead and jacketed bullets as I haveno experence with this cartridge at all, also what size would a lead bullet have to be for the microgroove barrel to be accurate?

I appreciate the informationabout the gun and the loads.MY son already has a .243 and took his first deer last season,a135lb doewith a perfect chest shot but it took us about an hour to find her,she ran over 150 yardswith hardly any bloodtrail eventhough it was a through and through shot.
I have a Marlin 38-55 and he wants to shoot somrthing larger like dad,so when I saw the .35 I took him to lookat it and he loved it,so when the govt lets me have some of my money back its his. Thanks shoalbass

This is the report I promised on my sons .35rem,first off this rifle is a tack driver with RL-7 and remington 200gr core-lock bullets.Over my F-1 chrony they averaged 2229fps at 10 feet from the muzzle,at 50 yards a 3/4in group andmoved to 100yards averaged 1 1/4 and that gentlemen from a 14 year old!!!
I never touched the rifle and have yet to fire it,Jordan my son did all the loading with me standing over his shoulder at the reloading bench, just to make sure every step was followed and the results proved to me he did it right.
I was shooting my 38-55 and some new bullets I just bought,245gr 18-20 hardness and was only grouping at 2 1/2 incheswith some really strange fliers about 4 inches outside the group.I was shooting IMR 4759 @ 24 grs ,over my chrony it clocked 1917fps average this as I discovered is to fast for the bullet I am shooting as it has no gascheck,so I willhave to back it down .
sorry I was so long winded just wanted to let you guys know we didand to also say thanks to all of you who have given me information and suggestions they have really helped.
