I'm about to start loading 35 Whelen for my Handi - factory 200 gr Remington and Hornady both shoot pretty well out of it, but I'm going to try Sierra 225 over 4064 as a first cut.
Anyone have a favorite load that works well in a Handi ?

The 225gr Sierra is a great bullet in the Whelen. It will turn in very good velocity/accuracy with BL-C2, W748, IMR-4895, and R15 from both of my Whelen's.
I use Rem 9 1/2M's with the balll powders, and WLP's with extruded.

Sir,

I think your starting point will be a great one. One great thing about this cartridge, is that it is really consistant and likes just about everything well. I like the other powders mentioned as well.

I think that the heavy weight bullets really make this fellow shine, and the heavier you go, the better you'll like it.

Best to you Sir.

You are at a very good starting point for the Whelen . It is not a fussy round to load and IMR-4064 works very well in it with the 225 . If you decide to load some 200s , IMR-4895 is the ticket .
