Everyone,

I am looking for some starter loads for the .35 Whelen that I recently bought my wife.  Full loads are a little excessive for her as she is getting used to the rifle.  Somewhere (don't remember where) I read about using pistol bullets for practice.  I am just looking for low recoil inexpensive rounds to put together.  We can work out the loads that take advantage of the Lilja barrel later.

What manuals do you have?  A number of them post loads for 158 & 180 gr. pistol bullets.  Nosler?  Don't recall off the top of my head (probably Speer as well, they usually have reduced loads for most rifle calibers).

MikeG,

I have a Nosler manual and it only lists the 180gr. Handgun round.  I will go with that, but was hoping for some other suggestions.

Thanks,

Mark

my speer manual lists a load w/ 158 grain speer jacketed pistol bullets using 42 grains of Re7.  You might also try 180 grain rifle bullets w/ 56 grains of Re15 should be [relatively] mild.
