Hi guys I have been harping on getting a left handed 35 whelen since the day after I sold my last one. I have now decided to have one made. I am going to go with a RMR with a 24" fluted tube and mcmillian stock. I have been advised that it will be ready in 8 weeks. I will also have them place a leupould VXIII on top. I think this will be my last one. I have decided to go back to all the old standards as my other rifles are old time calibers.
A great guy that I have gotten to know on the nosler site actually will be doing the load workup on it.
I am hoping to have it ready for Elk in the middle of Sept.

I think any 35 Whelen project is a great idea. Way to go!!!!

OK.... now for the part part that makes me go Hmmmmmm..... In reading your post a couple of flags came up. I'm wondering about the smith quoting you 8 weeks. I know for a fact that many barrel manufactures have long order times (Krieger is currently 14 weeks, shilen is better at 8 weeks as long as it isn't 30 caliber). And when I ordered my latest mcmillan stock, first of June, they quoted me 18 weeks for delivery.

So either your smith has a bunch of parts on hand and very little backlog, or you already had the stuff for the build. Otherwise, I don't think you're going to make 8 weeks.

I've got to ask a question. I know they must do things alittle different up Canada.

Myself I have afew rifles build and I enjoy breaking the barrel in and developing loads and I'm not sure I'd like someone doing that for me. To me seems like I'm getting a used rifle. I know who your talking on the nolser site was going to ask one time I guess he works thru some guns store or something up their.

I bought a Rem 700 cdl in 35 whelen last year. I put a Nitrex scope on it last fall and got some shots into paper but haven't hunted with it yet. I'm looking forward to breaking it in this year. I also bought a NIB 700 classic in 35 whelen but don't need two so will be selling that one. I liked the longer barrel on the CDL and can't bring myself to shoot the old classic.

if i did not know the gentleman I would make the load myself. I have a good load from my previous rifle is for the 250 gr but I think I am going to shoot 225 AB
If I could get a 35 whelen left hand in the cdl I would have it in a heart beat but unfortunately you can't

Hang in there..... the waiting is the hardest part.

The 225 gr Accubond is a good load. You can push them right at 2800 fps with RL15 which pretty much mimics the 338 win mag. Check out the Nosler reloading manual for specifics.

I ordered up a CDL Whelen a few years back, the day they were announced. The reason was I regretted NOT ordering a Classic when that run was available. I also have a M7600 Whelen.

Two Whelen's is a good number in my book

I guess hanging out on the Nolser site and paying one of their moderators to work up loads you would have him use Nolser bullets since Nolser paying for that site.

I have used nosler bullets bullets almost exclusively for 30 years. Most of the time parttions but have switched to ABs for the last number of years.
As far as using a moderator, I have never really thought about it. I know some of the guys have used my loads that I have worked with for 40 years.
