357 Sig, What is good/bad about this cartrage? If a bottle neck cartrage is good in autos why are most all others straight walled? It does not seam to me to fill a gap, why not just use a 40 S&W? The 10mm has more power and recoil (if needed) while the 9mm has less. Just does not compute to me, you guys got any thoughts on this?

the 357 sig does 2 things but at a cost. it shoots 9mm bullets at about the same velocity or slightly more than the 38 super and and it offers this with an existing case that can be altered and therefore cheaper more available brass. the sig is a hot 9mm but you give up mag capacity as much as 3 rounds in some guns. however 40 casings are everywhere that can be reformed easily. some guns have problems feeding the longer straight cases and the shorter fatter case solved that while offering more powder capacity.this case uses the 40 slide which gave factory opportunity to offer another cartridge without a different slide. basically this is a remedy to the problem some encountered with the 38 super. a fine cartridge but for a competition gun where mag capacity counts there are better choices.

It is a faster round than the 9mm Luger or the .40 caliber. A plus you might say but the flip side to that is it has a lot more "muzzle blast" and some think the recoil is worse as well. If your looking for real power in a semi-auto, go to the GLOCK in a model 20. It's recoil is less with this round used in a Glock. I know for I have 3 Glock pistols in 10mm caliber. Two of them are model 20 guns, the 3rd is a CCW pistol in a sub-compact model 29.

Now back on track, the .357-Sig ammo is not found all over the spectrum like the .40 cal or 9mm Luger ammo. It is also higher in price too! If you really want something that is the fastest kid on the block in a semi-auto. Then get a GLOCK model 20, change out the barrel to a Wolf 5 inch barrel in 9 x 25 caliber. Now you have a Big Brother to the .357-Sig that shoots bullets 1700fps.:cool:

The .357 Sig is supposed to match the ballistics of the .357 Magnum, but in a rimless auto cartridge. Unfortunately, it does not achieve this. With 125 grain bullets, it comes close, but with heavier bullets it cannot match the .357 Magnum. Shortly after it was introduced, it was embraced enthusiastically by many police forces, but popularity now seems to be declining, and the cartridge may become somewhat of a passing fad.

I have a .357 Sig barrel for my Glock 22, and it is fun to shoot sometimes. The recoil is roughly equivalent to a .40 S&W, perhaps a little lighter but definitely sharper than the .40 S&W.

I was shooting some handloads made with Blue Dot, and an unburned flake of powder ended up in the chamber. It got lodged against the shoulder of the next cartridge, the action wouldn't close, and it wouldn't fire. Cycling the round did not clear it. Because of this incident, I will think twice before choosing to carry a bottleneck autoloader for self-defense.

The irony of the .357 SIG is that it gives nearly identical ballistics to the 9x23 Winchester. The 9x23 doesn't cost you any mag capacity, however. The 9x25 Dillon is a better version of the necked down 10mm idea and blows the .357 SIG away. The reason the .357 SIG became so popular with police is that SIG made many LEO agencies really good deals on new pistols and the promise of power that it doesn't have.

OK, so the 357 SIG does not live up to 357 MAG ballistics, ammo is more expensive and harder to find or must be reformed, other cartridges are as good if not better(ballistics and recoil), the main reason police use it is the low price thay got(we can not get that price), its bottleneck case can cause problems, and popularity is declining.

Other than that, it's "ideal"? :)

I have a Glock 32c and love it. Our 125yd 10" gong is no problem to hit w/o the kind of hold over you need with a 9 or 45. It also did a nice job on a spike horn that wandered to close (40 yds.). Yes factory ammo is a little more expensive but I reload so that is not a big problem. Recoil in the 32c is sharp but not unmangable in the 33 it starts to become more of an issue with my arthritc wrist. As for mag capacity if you can't get it done with 13 rounds buy a good pair of running shoes.
