What in your opinion would be a better base rifle to start with for a rebarrel to 358 Norma mag...a 338 Win mag or a 300 Win mag?

Was thinking of picking up a Savage in 300 Win mag and getting a 358 Norma barrel or a 35 Whelen barrel and rechambering to 358 Norma mag.

Seems the dimension of the 300 WIn mag, 338 Win mag and 358 Norma mag are pretty close. So would the 300 Win mag and 338 win mag receivers feed the 358 Norma OK?

300 win mag rifles are a bargain now.

Thanks for any help.

The 300WM case is .012" - .013" longer than the 338WM or the 358NM, so the action and magazine from either will be well-suited for your rebarrel job. I would just buy whichever option is less expensive, since you're going to be taking the original barrel off, anyway.

I don't see how it would make any difference if you are rebarreling.
