I just picked up a pre-crossbolt Big Bore .375, along with a box of speer 200 gr fn and hornady 220 gr fn bullets.

I have both imr 3031 and 4064 on hand.

Anyone have any good loads for this combination?

The only load listed in my speer manual calls for 31 - 35 gr of 3031 under a 235 sp

exflatlander,

Don't have any experience with these powders in the 375. I use Re7 almost exclusively. The Speer recipe for the Hornady 220 and this powder works very well. Marshall touts AA1680 with his 250 gr LFN for top velocity.

BTW, want to trade for a Marlin? :)

Of your powders, the only load listed that I see is 35.2 grains of 3031 for the 220 Hornady, for 1900fps. This was the max load in the Hornady manual, the only other listed was 34 grains 3031 at 1800fps.

In everything I have seen, accuratte 1680 is the powder with the highest velocity, but I haven't tried it out yet, as nobody in these parts carries much Accuratte, regretably. I have a bunch of IMR4198, and that is what i burn, and I know allot of guys that swear by Re7.

GOod luck and good shooting, let us know what you come up with.

Steve

I loaded up a test batch of the 220's with 36 gr of 3031 (I found some unofficial data that listed 38 as the max) and some of the 200's with 38 gr (listed 40 as max).

I hope to lauch a few Sunday so I will post later that day.

The Lyman 47th Edition loading for a 220 gr Hornady FP calls for 35.0 gr of IMR3031 maximum, at 1983 fps and 40,700 pressure CUP. It may be pushing the envelope to load 38.0 grains under this weight bullet.

My personal loading for this cartridge in a Thompson Center Contender 21" carbine for the Hornady 225 gr SP is 39.7 gr of H322 and a CCI BR2 primer. Chrony's at 2250 fps
