I just bought a C. Sharps 40-65 and will be heading to PA next month to try it out. I would like to try paperpatch in this rifle and would like any reloadnig info anyone has to offer. I have several books but user experience is a lot better than theory. thanks in advance for any offerings.

wtmgdh52, I don't know what books you have but I have never found in any in my reference library to just contain theory. To the contary, their published information is based on the author's testing of procedures and reloading data.

Since the 40-65 caliber was developed for magazine repeating rifles, you many not find exact examples of information specific to 40-65 single shot rifles in the books. But wrapping a 40 caliber bullet is no different that with a 38 or 45 caliber one

Further, you make no mention of your powder intentions, original gunpowder or nitro based. For smokeless reloading, review the several vendor's databases. For original gunpowder reloads, the original reload was a 260 gr FN bullet with 65gr of Fg powder. If you plan to shoot a duplex load, 5gr of 5744 or 4198 or 4895 with 55gr of Fg would be the proper recipe

John,

Point well taken, I didn't word that one very well. I only meant that I was looking for any loads that work for other shooters.

What I have is an C. sharps 1874 with a 28 inch barell. I'll use real black powder probably 2 F or 1.5 F unless there are other suggestions. Also any suggestions on compression, primers, etc.

I realize it's a pains taking process to work up a load for a specific rifle but I have limited time to shoot and wanted to get as much information and ideas as possile. Thanks.
