After several months of slim pickings when it came to gunpowder I've finally got my hands on some H110 :D! But, as usual I have a few questions. Are magnum primers necessary for H110 or can I use Large pistol primers? What are some of your 300gr Ruger specific loads?

1. No, at least I've never ever used magnum primers in any H110/WW296 load.

2. Seems like it was in the neighborhood of 19 grains and a 300 grain XTP. Hurt like heck as I remember, on both ends. I quit shooting them shortly before my first tennis elbow surgery.

I've always used either Winchester Large Pistol primers (says right on the box they are for regular or magnum loads) and once in a great while, CCI Large Pistol Magnum.

I'd be interested in hearing about any other brands of non-magnum pistol primers that work OK with 296, out of curiosity.

I've used federal large pistol ( non magnum ) with 45 colt and h110/296 with no problems

Yep, Federal's or CCI's large pistol only. Had some issues with Winchester's offering in the either/or large pistol primers sometimes even going bang, but I blame that on the feller I bought them from.

How can I take advantage of the Redhawks long cylinder with 300grs and H110?
