I read somewhere the 44 mag round could be fired in a rifle chambered for the 444 marlin.  Is this possible?  Why would someone want to do this?  Maybe in an emergency situation?  Whew!  Scares me to death and I ain't fraid of nothing.

Bill,
Will the .44 round fit? Yes. Will it go bang? Yes. Is it safe or a good idea? I'm not touching that one!!!     ID

.44-40 is safer, it has the same head size as .444.  The .44 mag head size is quite a bit smaller so the possibility exists of rupturing a case.

Not sure what the accuracy would be with, say, 2 inches of freebore ahead of the bullet?
