Just for clarification...EVERY loading manual, EVERY powder website, etc.  says that the 44 mag in a rifle (let alone a handgun) is only good up to black bear.  I don't believe it, but that's what they say.  But you know about what "they" say...

I`ve taken 2 elk, 2 deer,---- 4 shots. All this was with  44 magnum revolvers, no brag-- just the facts. Enuf said I think.

With a load like the cast 300g WFNGC in 44 Rem Mag running in excess of 1650 fps from a 16" tube I would feel totally confident in taking anything in the lower 48 at ranges of 125 yds, or less, including moose (maybe excluding grizzlies).

I think so too, Jack.  You're treading on the heels of .45-70 black powder cartridges which wiped out the buffalo herds.  Hard to imagine this combo not working.
