I haven't even started loading .45/70 yet and my mind is working overtime on possibilites....

Whenever I get a new cartridge I always try to get the most out of it. Heck, I like experimenting too.

Is .45 muzzleloader  bore .458?  The rest of this post hinges on the answer being yes.

If so, has anyone reading this tried high pressure sabots in the .45/70 to ramp up velocity? Along this line. it would  allow larger bullet selection and allow lighter bullet weights. They might not feed in a magazine gun, but in the Encore the sabot might not be a problem.

TIA

Yes, the 45 cal ML barrel is .458.  Yes, sabots in 45/70 have been tried.  I know of nobody who has been successful with them.  Without some proper pressure-measuring equipment one is very much flying blind with load development.
Good shooting
