I've loaded 4.7 gr. and 4.2 gr. of Clays with the 250 gr. Lee bullet. Both loads have worked out fine. I've settled on the 4.2 gr. load. I use it in both the rifle and the pistols.
I use 4.8grns of clays with the 250grn bullet *-brass WLP and it chronys 715fps out of my 5.5" RV's and 850fps out of my 20" uberti 73 winchester clone. It is quite accurate.
The Hodgdon Cowboy Action Data free maunal 3rd Edition lists a Clays load of 4.2 min. and 5.1 maximum with a 250 grain RNFP in the 45 Long Colt. Velocities listed were 713 and 817, respectively.
