500 Yards With The 30-30 Winchester

Not preaching just saying as a hunter I try to do my part in minimizing the risks. Personally I feel bad for putting an animal in unnessary suffering if I can avoid it. As a hunter I try to respect the game not use it as a target. I see no issue at shooting at a target at 500 yards with a 30/30 just not an animal.
I agree. One of the places I hunt is the next place over from a paid hunting area. It's not unusual to find animals dead near the fences after being shot up bad enough to die after they got away. More experienced hunters would be able to determine if they made a meat shot and be ethical enough to try recovering the game they just hit.

My trajectory tables don't go out to 700 yards. I'm guessing the holdover difference between 700 and 800 yards could be measured in feet .... not inches. Also would think a miscalculation of a few yards at that range a person could completely miss a 24" target.

The Dirty Thirty can easilly be counted on to harvest deer as far as 700 or 800 yards with the right bullet.
This has got me curious, what range do you sight the 30-30 for? How much holdover to make a 700 or 800 yard shots? How much velocity and energy is left at those ranges?
