I'm new to reloading. I have a Ruger SR9 9mm auto. Want to reload 115 gr (Berry's plated) bullets. Right now the only powder I have is IMR 800-X. What do you guys think of using it and what powder do you really recommend?

800X is not commonly used for loading 9mmP, but there are recommended loads for it. More commonly used powders are the middle-range pistol powders such as 231, AA5, Unique, SR 4756, etc, with the 115 grain bullet.

800-x isnt a good powder for the 9MM due to the facts the 9MM case is to small & the size of 800-x flakes are to large thus takeing up alot of room in the small 9MM case. A better powder would be something like AA#5,Powder Pistol, or AA # 7 which was designed for the 9MM.

As a new reloader, suggest you use any of the recommended powders found in your reloading manual listed under a particular cartridge e.g. 9mm. The reloading manual folks are providing you with a list of components that work best for your needs so why not make use of their advice.
