I snapped the front sight off when I took a fall the other day. It was the factory installed piece. I do not know the correct height to start my search for a new one. I was thinking of something with a white bead to work better with my peep sight. Any suggestions to a paticular brand? My gun is a 94 AE 30-30 20" barrel. It is dove tailed in. Thanks

Does it have a front sight ramp or no ramp? The ramp sight is much shorter. The non ramp front sight is about .490 but varies a little depending on rifle. Same with the ramp type sight, standard height is about .310.

I would order one of Dave Skinners front sights. He offers a very tall post type sight that is to be filed down to the desired height as you sight it in.

I went to the local smith this morning. He hooked me up with a Marbles size 50 front sight. It has a nice and visable white bead on it. I had to file on it a hair to get it to fit the dovetail, as well on the front edge as the base wanted to hite one of the barrel bands. I will post back the range resultes once the rain quits in a few months.
