It may be too soon to get some good feedback on this one since the Ruger is new, but I would even appreciate some speculation and opinions.... I am looking for a compact 9mm for daily carry. I have looked at Glock, XD, XDm, M&P, and a few 1911 micros (all 9mm) and I have narrowed down to the final 2 and can't make a choice and pull the trigger (pun intended).

Ruger's new SR9c _or_ Springfield's XD Subcompact 9mm.

Now I am sure lots of folks will push the Glock, which I agree is a great gun, but it just doesn't fit my hands (very wide with short fingers). I love the 1911's but I prefer the higher capacity in the other choices and the price. I want to stay roughly within $500.

I am currently carrying my Ruger sp101 which is great and so reliable, but I am looking to upgrade in the capacity and have a 2nd carry option in an auto instead of just a wheel gun.

Have you checked out the CZ 2075 RAMI? I have the .40 S&W Model, but it also comes in 9mm. Of the two listed, You can't go wrong with either, but I would probably choose the Ruger, just my preference.

I'm not a huge fan of 9's, but when I shot a Kahr P9, I had to have one. It's very size efficient, and weighs barely a lb. It is very reliable with all sorts of loads, and as accurate as any DAO I've ever tried.

Cannot speak of the Ruger, but I own the full size XD that is flawless in function.
that said, I will comment on the M&P 9c.
I too was looking for a compact 9mm, and looked @ the glock, the XD and the M&P. I liked the XD, because it had the added grip safety that Glock did not have, but it is a bulky gun...not in size, but surely in shape.
Once I picked up the M&P tho, i knew i found the one I wanted. The fact that the backstrap is interchangable is a plus, as it can virtually fit any hand with a change of parts.
Mine has no mag safety, and no thumb safety. It came with 2 mags; one with a flush baseplate, and one with a finger extention. By far the finger extention is more comfortable to shoot, but the flat baseblate barely prints when carried.
Accuracy of the full size XD is incredible, and the M&P 9c is spot on also. Winchester white box ammo shoots to point of aim repeatedly, and my carry ammo of Gold dot is just as accurate. So far I am @ about 1000 rounds of mixed ammo thru the M&P, with not a single problem. I recommend this one.

Glock
I used to own a Glock 19, 2nd generation. It was a reliable gun, and extremely accurate, but the grip was the failing point for me. The 3rd Generation guns with the finger grooves on the grip are by far better IMO. My 3rd Gen. model 23 is very improved over the 2nd gen. guns.

I have the XD subcompact in both 9 and 40. I cannot speak highly enough of them. I use the 40 every month for my IDPA matches. I had an XDm in 40, but sold it because the 40 shoots just as well and I am competing with the same gun I carry every day.
