Hey Every one,
I am going to the Gun Show at Ft Worth this saturday and was wondering if you guys could give me some advice. I have shot the Para and the S&W before and I like them both. I am looking for a 1911 chambered in the .45 ACP and have the following guns in mind:

1. Para Ordnance P14
2. S&W 1911
3. Kimber BP-10
4. Colt (Gvt Model)
5. Springfield Armory
6. Sig GSR

I am a student and cannot afford to buy a Wilson Combat or a STI but if you guys can give me your opinions regarding the guns mentioned from 1 to 6, I would be much obliged. I am looking for a used pistol with a price tag of upto $700.

If you can find one for $700, I would go for the Kimber. The Springfiled Armory would be my next choice.

Heck you can get a brand new milspec for $500. That would leave you $200. I would suggest you use the left over funds for three things.

A good holster

Some good mags wilson combat come to mind, well worth the money


Plenty of ammo to get to the range and practice.

I've got a friend that owns a Colt Government, 3 Kimbers, and a S&W1911. He likes his S&W best. I'm about to buy an S&W too.

In the last gun show I was at S&W's 1911 were selling from $700 to $850 new in the box. I have a model #108282 and it has never jammed and I have shot factory hot and cold, pulse I reload and have shot everything but the kitchen sink in it. I am going to buy one at the gun show in July. I have shot just about all the major names. It's S&W for me from now on.

As a Sig Sauer P 220 45acp owner I'm biased it's accurate out of the box,fits my big hands,first time I fired it I put approx 150 rounds of 230 hardball in a 2"x3" hole in the center area of a silhouette target.

I have a Kimber TLE II (with internal extractor) and paid about $625 or so. I would highly recommend it. Some problems have arisen with the external extractor, which is why Kimber went back to the internals this year. Personally I have had no problems whatsoever, and it is my most accurate pistol I own.

I did a lot of research, and shot a lot of guns before I bought mine. I'll put in a second or third for the kimber. Mine's the TLE II.

My Kimber is the CDP II and its the most accurate (un-scoped) gun in my safe. Love it.

Kimber, Springfield, or older Colt. IMO, you should stay away from external extractors and recoil spring guide rods, as they are unnecessary modifications that only add complexity to a very simple, rugged and reliable design. I have 5 1911's, two older Colt's, Series 80, two Springfield's, and an Essex frame, Colt slide and GI internals that I built up in college 20+ years ago, because I couldn't afford a Series 70 Colt. I've shot two Kimbers, and feel that they're the top dog in production 1911's. Lots of gun for the money. If you can afford one it's the way to go, with the Springfield a close second. I would buy one, and may yet, but it's hard to justify another 1911 to the CFO. I haven't seen or shot the S&W 1911, so will withhold comment. My comments on the newer Colt products are not for family consumption, so that should tell you how I feel about them. SIG makes a nice handgun, but I've not shot or handled the model you've mentioned, so can't comment.
