So its winter time. Work would be very slow for me if not for a surprise project that is going to take about a month. In preparation for a winter slowdown I started opening my horizons and putting my resume out there. I got a bite with BNSF Railway, and a start date of Jan 17. Despite the great pay and benefits, its not really what I'm looking for. I have applied for a higher up position with my current company, but I have not heard a word yet, and the previous 4 positions I applied with them did not even garner an interview. Granted they did hire some very well qualified individuals for those positions. Out of the blue, another company sent me a letter asking me to apply with them as they were interested in my skills. Thats the first time that has happened, and its a very interesting position that I believe I would enjoy and the pay would be better than my current position. I did apply with the company and I am eagerly waiting, but my brain is just playing with me.

I hope I can just put faith that the best opportunity will arise from these possibilities.

if companies are asking you to apply ,it sounds like you have what any employer is looking for..you come in an do your best, whether the boss is watching or not..
i always worked a job as if it was my buisiness,i was working for..good work ethics are what i looked for..sometimes it takes a slacker a while to learn that..
may god guide you in your choices.

Maybe I've just got them fooled! :D I hope I'm a good worker, I've always scored well in productivity whenever I've been measured in comparison.

I build maps of buried utilities. Its fun and I get a lot of freedom, but it doesn't have much of a future. I don't want to work with some of the bosses on my side of the company, they are intolerably stupid. The VP seems to think he needs to be involved in everything that goes on, trouble is that is a lot of stuff so it takes him 6+ weeks to get it done, he keeps falling further and further behind and he has to be constantly reminded of what it was he was supposed to do. He just needs to trust his employees more. I'm driving around in a 2wd truck with no snow tires right now in 5+" of snow and ice everywhere because of his poor timeliness.

I know if I go to work for the main company that I work for, things are a lot better and its in a different district than my current job. If I go to work for the other gas company, its got much better benefits and I'd get to stay in my current area. The railroad would be great pay and benefits. I want to go work for the other gas company, it won't pay as much as the RR, but its more consistent - monday to friday, 8-5, some on call.

Matt, hopefully the job with the other gas company will come through. Apparently you have a good work reputation that spurred them to send you an offer for an interview. After retiring from the LA State Police I went to work for Horseshoe Casino doing maintainance on the video system. Man was that a no end job. All the bosses were relatives of the higher ups and not because they knew what they were doing. After a year I had all I could stand and gave them my two weeks notice. On the way home from quitting, I received a call from the local engineer in charge of building the new cellular phone network. He offered me job that led to another 16 year career. Keep praying and doing your job well and that door will be opened.

John, I hear ya there. I graduated from college a year and a half ago, I thought I was going to slide into a nice job with the feds, but that didn't pan out so I started looking elsewhere and took this position. It was what I prayed for, to get out of Billings and get my feet on the ground. Now I'm ready to move up, I'd like to stay in Havre as I like it here. The people are nice, traffic and crime are nonexistant, property prices are low, there is a 1000 yard range that is only $15 a year, and the hunting and fishing are great.

BB20, I have a valuable degree in Environmental Law, if I were to move to california or new york I could land a very well paying job pretty easily. I'm not interested in being a lawyer though.

Couldnt pay me enough to move to cali or NY. One thing to keep in mind, it would be worth looking for the right job rather than biting at the first oppurtunity, especially with the great options you have.
