I'm looking for some proven loads to go to Africa when I get there. I have a cz 550 and am going to use 500 gn bullets. Probably hornadys but not sold on that yet. I'm looking to be in the 2250 fps range. I dont want to have any sticky bolts or anything when I get to the heat of Africa. Any loads out there or powders that seem to be well suited for what I'm trying to do? Thanks.

We're all too poor to be doing what you are. Just me, but I'd stick to the factory ammo on an African trip.

Yeah I had a former hunting buddy who thought he would save a few bucks on ammo needed for his African hunting trip. Shot numberous animals but never could find them but had too pay the fees never the less. He blamed everything--gun, scope, guide, god and the weather but never his el cheapo ammo attitude.. If you can afford the airline tickets and hunting fees then you can afford couple hundred bucks for the ammo.

Never was looking at this to save money. I thought it would be pretty cool to not only bring down a cape buf, but do so with my own handloads. If the absolute norm is factory ammo, that is what I'll do.

all the trips I made across the pond were with handloads ..

In my CZ , 80 grains of IMR4320 runs 2230 fps .. No issues ..

VV540 is supposed to be the powder for the Lott , guys easily reaching 2300 , no idea on load data for that , but is my next experiment ..

Win 452AA

I have about 8 lbs of Win452AA--any suggested loads for .45-70 with 405gr cast lead bullets? My .45-70 is a recent Henry

452AA is way too fast to use in a 45/70. Pick something slower in burn rate. And not to mention, I haven't seen any info on where the Henry is on action strength. Better find that out before loading anything for it.
