I shot an albino buck this past Sat. in Middleburg VA.  This was the first time I have ever seen anything like it, it is white as snow with some black dots.  Have any of you shot one like this, or do you know any interesting info on them?

Hi, Paris:
I've never seen one myself. This is from Sportman's Guide to Game Animals by Leonard Lee Rue III.

"While some true albinos occur in deer, most of the so-called 'white' deer are only partial albinos and have patches of white hair on a normally brown coat. It has been observed that these 'white' deer usually have a hearing deficiency and that normal deer avoid them."

The deer you shot is a piebald ,several are killed in Georgia each season. There was an albino doe in a community about 15 miles from where I live, she had pink eyes and almost clear hooves. She was well protected by the hunters in that community, she had several fawns that were seen with her through the years and none of them were albino, she lived about 5 years and probably would have died of old age if not for the fact that she and a pick up had a chance meeting on a a rainy night ,as she was leaving the local cemetary that she liked to graze in.

I have photos of a mostly white deer.
legs seem short for whitetail and rear end and rump really large.
could not keep up with rest of herd when they ran.
body was all white with brown neck and head.
Like i said have pics if anyone is interested.

Interesting - my father-in-law has pictures of a (mostly) albino deer from western KS.  I don't know if it was a pure albino or not, don't know if he ever got close enough to tell.  But it sure is obviously white.  Horns never seemed to amount to much.

Actually, alyeska, I've heard a couple deer say moo when shot (or when kicked in the head to check if it was still alive.). My uncle shot a piebald deer in south Ohio last season.
He showed it to me and I said "Tim, If that thing didn't have hooves, I'd swear you shot somebody's dog." It was all white with dalmatian like spots all over. I'm surprised it lived past the spring with all the coyotes and bobcats in his area. It would have stood out real well against a green and brown forest, I'd think.

Here's what appears to be a true albino buck (pink eyes, pink nose) reportedly killed by a car in the Three Lakes area in Northern Wisconsin.

Supposedly 4 years old, 240 lbs on the hoof, 19" inside spread.
